BEIRUT, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Four Syrians were killed and four Lebanese civilians wounded on Thursday in an alleged Israeli raid that targeted a house in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.
The military sources, who spoke anonymously, said that an Israeli warplane fired four air-to-ground missiles at a house in Lebanon's southwestern village of Chamaa, killing a mother and her three children.
An ambulance belonging to the Islamic Health Authority transported their bodies to a hospital in the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon, the sources said, adding that the Red Cross transported the four wounded to an Italian hospital in Tyre.
According to the sources, Israeli drones and warplanes on Thursday carried out three raids on three border towns and villages in southern Lebanon, while the Israeli artillery shelled four towns with about 20 shells.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on Thursday's attacks.
An Israeli drone fired on Tuesday evening three missiles at a position near the Shura Council of Hezbollah in Dahieh in Beirut's southern suburbs, killing Fouad Shokor, Hezbollah's top military commander, and seven civilians.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah threatened a definite and painful response to the Israeli attack at the appropriate time and place.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.■
